Earlier this month, I headed up to Minnewaska Lodge in the Hudson Valley for a two-day shoot at at the Praxis Business Accelerator's 2015 Kickoff event, where this year's selected fellows (entrepreneurs and founders from a variety of start-ups) spent a week learning from prominent business and religious thought leaders, including the former CMO of Lands' End, the founder and CEO of Chatham Financial, and the lead pastor of Trinity Grace Church. The fellows themselves, representing a dozen companies, were equally impressive, with Y Combinator and TechStars alums counted in the mix.
Besides taking photographs of the fellows and mentors interacting on the grounds of the beautiful Minnewaska Lodge, I was also tasked with taking headshots of the fellows, as well as candid portraits of those in attendance, many of which I've rendered as black and white below. I love how thinking in a black and white mode forces one to shoot with a singular focus on composition and contrast, without relying on color to make a photo pop. With all that said, color is also quite necessary when shooting the Hudson Valley foliage in October!
I hope you enjoy these photos, and check out more of my event work here.
